I cried during this. One of the reasons were that I've been traveling to New York twice (i live in denmark), and both of the times has me and my family tried to get tickets but both of the times, they've been completely sold out. missed the chance twice. second reason is cause it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!

@EyeballHighballHand I'm planing on seeing it in my home state of Illinois in November, I think two days after my birthday on the ninth. Also I have to admit, the original cast of anything whither it be the Broadway version or the original cast of the same play in a different country is always the best in my opinion.

This was the first Broadway musical I ever saw. And let me just say, that it set the bar WAY high for any future production on Broadway I see. Probably too far for any other musical to reach. Tough luck. Best production ever. It's now my dream to be Rafiki... since I can't dance... and it's the only female part that requires none really. Too bad I'm not African... All well. I saw it in Chicago - while some of the lighting during "Be Prepared" was a little, tiny bit overdone (It was fine in terms of the play itself, but the flashing lights hurt my eyes), it was overall a a brilliantly laid-out, breathtaking play!

Let me just say that the opening to the Lion King is probably one of the most beautiful, amazing sequences in all of the history of broadway musicals. I mean when I was watching it for the first time (a while ago) I was like "OMG I don't even need to see the rest. Since the stage musical began, Disney has grossed well over 3 billion dollars from The Lion King. How ironic that Julie Taymor (who is the genius behind Lion King on Broadway) may ultimately be remembered for the flop that is Spiderman

yup it's still on broadway! I live in Las Vegas and it is the 1st show to ever come to Las Vegas and not change to the typical 1 1/2 hour vegas type show. They determined that there were no pieces able to be dropped. It still runs its full length even in Vegas which says a lot about the show!

I waited 11 years to see this show in London and it was definately worth the wait when I saw it in June this year. The Lion King is my favourite film ever and seeing it on stage was an experience I'll never forgot. I cried like 3 times and no musical I've seen has done that to me and I've seen a lot of shows. I'd reccomend EVERYONE see this show. It's just brilliant!

i saw this play during a class trip for my drama club and i have to say this is a masterpiece. from the costumes, to the layed back timon and pumba, to the funny sarcasm by zazu, to the randomness of rafiki, all the way to the over all amazing singin and acting by the whole cast (especially adult simba) i would have enjoyed this musical even more.............if i didnt have to explain everything in the play to my friend because she never saw the movie

It has 14 songs outside of the 5 that are in the movie (Circle of Life, Can't wait to be King, Be Prepared, Hakuna Matata and Can You Feel the Love Tonight). Many of them are African-themed with authentic vocals and rhythms native to the Lion King's land, and some of them were specially written by Elton John and Tim Rice to fit into the storyline, and yet others are English re-workings of songs from the Rhythm of the Pride Lands album (Lala turned into Endless Night, for instance).

This song honestly makes me cry like a baby. My father was an amazing guy, then he divorced my mother and decided he was going to be a jerk and abandon us. But he'd always promised to be there for me, and hearing that line just made me break down into sobs because I know he won't be. Great song, to be able to evoke that kind of emotion in someone.

Wow memories of this song and soundtrack! I was a teen in an acting group when the Lion King took Broadway by storm years ago. I remembering being in my room playing this soundtrack over and over again hoping one day to play simba and be apart of this musical. I begged my mom over and over to see this play well one day it came true. One of my best memories as a teen. I am now 28 years old and put that memory in the back of my mind, Seeing it in vegas a week ago brought those memories back=)

I forgot about this song...the first half tears me up though, because I've always deeply sympathized with Simba. My own father died the same year that I saw Lion King and I was about 5-ish. But that just makes the end of the song that much better. Things always get brighter, no matter how dark the present may seem.

If it was religious, it sounds like it would be pantheistic, which is more impersonal and spiritual, like The Force. This is usually used when referring to those that believe in reverence for their ancestors (like Mulan). I never really understood why everyone claims this is religion. @temujin650 Yeah don't they even explain how the circle of life works? The antelope eats the grass, the lions eat the antelope and the lion dies and the grass eats the lion and the cycle continues. So it's like a metaphor for how the spirit never leaves. It's not only in the stars above where all the kings go but inside of you the spirit lives on through you... or something along those lines lol. Maybe I just mis understood it

@SpotConlonRox I think that broadway in general is always more emotional....it's just how it is. Especially since a musical number is magnified emotion. Plus the actor has more to show the emotion better than a voice actor, they use their body, voice, face and song, while a voice actor is only giving an animated character a voice. Quite often the singers are different people in cartoons.

I love Nala's voice from the Broadway version in this song! In the movie, Nala is so laid back but on Broadway she sounds WAY more emotional! Which is awesome! :) And Max Casella as Timon here is priceless! :)
