I saw this a few nights ago! Best play I've EVER seen! Defying Gravity was by far my favorite song. When I saw it, though, this wasn't the woman playing Elphaba. She was played by an understudy that night. And she was fuckin amazing! Best play ever. I love it. X3

Good for you for doing this part at 14. Did I catch that right, that you were Toby on Broadway? There is an aspect of Maurice that is child-like (note not childish). He is naive, innocent but also thinks he is bit wise. Think about some of the eccentric mentors you have had in school or career, and mimic one of them. Your part is there also for comic relief, so there there is nothing wrong with playing it a bit big, but don't be as big as lefou. See also some of my previous posts. Break a Leg!

You can also try to be very animated (it is based on a cartoon) Look in a mirror as you move, make the movements bid and accentuated, but in your character. If it feels too big you are doing it right. Let your director know what you are doing. They will pull you back if you get to big. Also look at the moment Belle and I did at 'quite rightly' in the song. Wear a weding ring, and think of the sadness of losing someone close to you. Break a leg

Too bad about the song. So build up your character of Maurice, milk the lines, add mumbling and lots of head motions. But most of all, while you are excentric, the audience must believe you ARE Belle's father and that you and her have a special relationship because you are both 'odd'. Other irony. Don't pay attention to the hag, but don't annoy the beautiful enchantress. Fall in love with someone ugly because they are beautiful inside, their reward is to become beautiful on the outside (vs. people accepting them for what they are). Belle and her fathers separation anxiety, but as soon as she finds her prince, its so-long dad. (but I think thats what Change in me is supposed to tell, the actual acceptance of separation of Belle and her father by her finally maturing.)

I went to see it. My father plays the saxophone and at the show you can hear when presses the keys, so if they sound there`s no air suppressing that specific sound. Sahr doesn`t play the saxophone but he pretends very well. His alternate Kevin Mambo does play and very good by the way. I went to the Cast Album Release and Kevin played... Both are very talented and skilled artists

Such a shame it's closed on Broadway but i like how people who were in the show came back & onstage 2 sing You Cant Stop The Beat finishing the show off in style & im very suprised that they have decided 2 close Hairpsray in London's West End when it was doing so well cause most show's only last till 3 years in the West End with some exceptions example The Lion King which is now in it's 10th year woo hoo oh well at least they are goin on a UK Tour already got my ticket's yay

It really wasn't the economy that closed the show. It had been in a gradual decline and it was it's time to go. The show had become stale and was losing it's spark as well as it's audience. 6.5 years is a very respectable run for a broadway show.

It makes me kinda wonder if the players even referred to Fela's tapes which is everywhere on youtube....My pain is that of unprofessional ism and misinterpretation. Have you actually seen her in A View from a Bridge? I wen in with the mentality that she was going to be the worst part of the show, I came out thinking she was one of the best performers in the show if not the best! Sure, movie stars aren't always the best option and producers will have them cast so there show gets RP, but this role was amazing for her and I wouldn't mind at all if she won a Tony Award. Most movie stars got their start in theatre by the way!

That was cool, glad to see THEE Dunning sisters doing your thing.. Were is "Sol" ?. Solomon had some sweet rhythm guitar licks on a lot of SKYY's songs. Muller and Sol were a great combo, and the Dunnings were the Cherries on top.

wow i've seen all these disney on broadway previews...when are u guys goin to to do ones of: mulan, lady and the tramp, aladin 2 and 3, lion king 2, tron (u guy could pull it off just get daft punk n the guy who did the 90s disney movie soundtracks), i'm pretty sure its about that time to make that frog movie a musical by now.....or heres a huge one..... kingdom hearts the musical ..like have a huge mashup up of musical numbers from past disney musicals...my two sense..lol overboard.

i loved seeing this on broadway, it was soo amazing. and it was so much fun, people were swinging on vines over our heads, it was a really cool effect lol. and btw the guy that plays Tarzan is Josh from Holly's World, on E! lol:p

I wonder if they'll ever try to do a revival of this? despite criticisms from aptly-named critics, it actually looks like this was a great show! was it not well-publicized when it ran? The only things I have to criticize are that 1) the shipwreck effects in the beginning were AMAZING but slightly ruined by the extremely conspicuous harnesses, so they should have tried to hide those better, and 2) the ape costumes...well, they don't look like apes lol. Other than that I think it looks awesome!

They REALLY got Tarzan's dad SPOT ON. Not so much his mother, but his dad looks IDENTICAL to the movie. I'm sad this had to get cancelled. It looks beautiful.

it looks great. i was on a broadway site the night of the tony's and the main consensus was for this to go to vegas and had no place on Broadway but i am disagreeing now. when i saw Will Swenson originally in it...i think the music is amazing and as an 80s rocker (lol) i think i would love it!

This is just from rehearsal, which is why it probably seems "different" from the actual show. This rehearsal was done without the band, costumes or set. It will definitely ROCK ! Just 2 more weeks. Woo hoo!

Is this different from the way they did it on off-broadway? I hope they're not changing it too much for the mass audience. It was perfect the way it was. This performance is sounding less rock and more broadway, which isn't good.
